The prompt that gives you Anki-ready cards

Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any AI chat. Replace [TOPIC] with what you are studying. Asking for one short fact per answer makes cards easier to remember and to answer out loud.

Make 20 flashcards about [TOPIC]. Reply with only the flashcards, no intro or outro,
in exactly this format, with a blank line between cards:

Q: question

Step by step

How to turn ChatGPT flashcards into an Anki deck

AI assistants write flashcards in many shapes, and Anki imports only one. This page bridges the two, so the import works on the first try.

  1. Ask your AI for flashcards.

Use the prompt on this page, or any request for question-and-answer cards. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini all work.

  2. Paste the reply here.

Paste the whole reply, intro and sign-off included. The converter finds the cards and shows a preview.

  3. Download the Anki file.

Select Download for Anki to save a .txt file that already tells Anki which separator and settings to use.

  4. Import it in Anki.

In Anki desktop choose File, then Import, select the file, check the note type and deck, and select Import. Sync to see the cards on your phone.

Formats it understands

  • Q: / A: labels, including bold and numbered ones
  • Front: / Back: labels and “Card 1” headings
  • Tables, with or without a header row
  • Semicolon rows like question;answer, the format AI often picks for Anki
  • CSV and tab-separated rows
  • Question | Answer and term - definition lines
  • Cloze deletions like {{c1::ATP}}
  • Replies in a code block, with intro and sign-off text ignored

Before you study

  • AI assistants can be wrong. Check the preview against your course material.
  • This page converts cards; it doesn’t write them. Your AI does that part.
  • Cloze cards import as Anki’s built-in Cloze note type. Paste cloze and regular cards separately.

Common questions

ChatGPT to Anki FAQ

Is this ChatGPT to Anki converter free?

Yes. It is free, needs no account or sign-up, and the tool sets no limit on how many cards you convert.

Does it work with Claude, Gemini and other AI assistants?

Yes. It reads the text, not the app it came from, so cards from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or your own notes all work as long as each card has a question and an answer.

What should I ask ChatGPT for?

Ask for flashcards as Q: and A: lines with a blank line between cards, or copy the prompt on this page. Short answers work best for studying.

Are my flashcards uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser with JavaScript. The text you paste or open is not sent to a same3le server.

Can it import cloze deletion cards?

Yes. Lines with cloze markup such as {{c1::answer}} are saved for Anki's built-in Cloze note type, and the preview shows one card per cloze number.

Does it check whether the AI's answers are correct?

No. AI assistants can make mistakes, so check the preview against your course material before you study.

Which versions of Anki can import the file?

Anki 2.1.54 and later read the settings at the top of the file automatically. In older versions, choose Tab as the field separator, turn on Allow HTML in fields, and pick the Cloze note type for cloze cards.

Can I study the cards without installing Anki?

Yes. same3le, the free app that made this converter, reads each question aloud and listens to your spoken answer in the browser. Use the button under your converted cards to start.
